Endless Mountains Heritage Region
Endless Mountains Heritage Region
We are currently undergoing a feasibility study to see if we, as a state-designated Heritage Area, has what it takes to become a National Heritage Area under the National Park Service. This takes a literal act of Congress, and we hope those in the region we serve will reach out to their federal legislators and tell them we want to tell the amazing history and fascinating story of the Endless Mountains by become the next National Heritage Area in the U.S. and the seventh NHA in Pennsylvania.
The EMHR collaborates with various businesses and organizations in Bradford County and across the four-county region we serve. All outdoor events hosted by the Heritage Region, including our hikes, paddles, cycling events, and historic preservation workshops, which are open to the public, are catered by local small businesses and often raise money for local causes. For example, our annual Fall Heritage Benefit Paddle held in October, raised $500 for the Bradford County Conservation District. The EMHR also offers an annual Partnership Mini-Grants program that has brought over $800,000 in state funding to Bradford County organizations and municipalities and well over $3 million to the region for projects pertaining to outdoor recreation, historic preservation, and educational programming.

What’s one thing about Bradford County that most people don’t know but should discover?
The history! Bradford County has an abundance of heritage assets, from its many museums and historical societies to the beautiful and fascinating heritage sites like the Wyalusing Rocks, the Marie Antoinette Overlook over the French Azilum Historic Site, Barclay Mountain and the ghost town of Laquin, Tioga Point, and the Friedenshutten Settlement. Bradford County’s history goes back far beyond the founding of our nation to the times of the Susquehannocks and the Iroquois who settled along the shores of the Susquehanna, which is estimated to be over 300 million years old. Regardless of the time period you’re interested in as a history buff, Bradford County has a story for you!

There is a lot of ground to cover when exploring the county and so many amazing places and experiences to enjoy. Paddle or fish along the Susquehanna; explore our beautiful downtowns; visit our museums and grab a bite at one of our many small businesses; take a hike at our premiere state park, Mount Pisgah, or atop historic Barclay Mountain. Take the time to appreciate the natural beauty of Bradford County and discover what we all love about its rural character and culture. It’s truly a remarkable place.
